Holy Communion
Christmas Day 2018
CALL To us a child is born, to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
The central candle on the Advent ring is lit, and we pray together:
Lord Jesus, Light of Light,
Today we celebrate your coming amongst us.
Help us who live by your light to shine as lights in your world.
Glory to God in the highest! Amen.

PRAYER OVER THE BREAD AND WINE
Lord Jesus Christ, present with us now,
for all that you have done and all that you have promised,
What have we to offer?
Our hands are empty,
our hearts are sometimes full of wrong things.
We are not fit to gather up the crumbs
from under your table.
But with you is mercy and the power to change us.
So as we do in this place what you did in an upstairs room,
send down your Holy Spirit
on us and on these gifts of bread and wine
that they may become for us your body,
healing, forgiving and making us whole;
and that we may become for you, your body,
loving and caring in the world
until your kingdom comes. Amen.
The minister takes and breaks the bread
Among friends, gathered round a table,
Jesus took bread, broke it, and said,
“This is my body. It’s broken – for you.”
The minister takes and blesses the cup of wine.
And later he took the cup of wine and said,
“This is the new relationship with God
made possible because of my death.
Take this – all of you.”
SONG What can I give Him, poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb;
if I were a wise man, I would do my part,
yet what I can, I give Him: give my heart.
Let us pray for ourselves and for our world, in the words of the prayer which Jesus taught us to say.
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and for ever. Amen.
The gifts of God for the people of God.
Jesus Christ is holy, Jesus Christ is Lord
to the glory of God the Father. Amen.
After communion we join together in praying:
Lord Jesus, may we who have joined the worship of the angels
never lose that heavenly vision in our lives.
May we, who like the shepherds have seen in your birth a new kind of love show that love in our lives to your praise and glory. Amen.
BLESSING AND SENDING OUT
May the eagerness of the shepherds, the joy of the angels,
the perseverance of the wise men, the obedience of Mary and Joseph, and the peace of the Christ-child be ours this Christmas.
And the blessing of God almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be among us and remain with us always. Amen.
Let us go into the world rejoicing! It is Christ who goes before us.
Thanks be to God!
